Why You Want To Be The Cybertruck of Jobs

Last Thursday, Tesla announced it's brand new Cybertruck set to release in 2020. If you know me, you know I'm a huge Tesla fan.

Obviously, 2020 is a ways away... but that didn't stop me and 200,000 others from pre-ordering it.

This really got me thinking... Tesla did something right here because whether you love it or hate it chances are, you're talking about it.

Now, what does this have to do with hiring?

If you're in HR, you're probably always on the lookout for "best practices". That sounds like a safe route to go right? "Everyone is doing it", but what you may not realize is that it's a huge contributor to why you're lacking applicant flow.

It's not the "talent shortage", it's the fact that most job listings are just copies of others. Those are the ads that are struggling to bring in candidates.

If you want to have different results, you're going to have to do something, well... different.

Talk to your best employees, what do they love about their job and your company? What about it is compelling to them? These are the things you need to focus on and talk about in your job listings.

Credible

If you do a good job at the above, you'll see your organization starts to build credibility. People will start talking about your jobs more, and you'll be known for the unique offerings you are advertising.

People will want to work for you for more than just pay, they'll want your jobs because they're different, and they sound perfect to THEM.

Just like the Cybertruck. Sure, maybe not everyone wants one, but those 200,000 people who do— they REALLY want it.
