JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, builds and maintains a reliable power system for the public which includes climbing poles and working from a bucket truck on energized primary and secondary lines. Operates back hoes and track hoes for underground installations. Digs pole holes and strings wire while controlling traffic for overhead installations. Inspects equipment operated by lineman, keep accurate/current paperwork such as outage reports, locate tickets, and work orders. Performs other related duties. Reports to the Electrical Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Repairs outage issues.
  • Maintains current distribution system.
  • Constructs new primary and secondary line equipment.
  • Verifies and examines locates, clearances, and measurements in terms of work orders and job prints.
  • Operates and maintains heavy equipment.
  • Examines tools and equipment such as climbing gear, harness, and lanyard for safe work operation.
  • Interacts with public to coordinate and establish a safe work zone.
  • Trains new employees on safe and productive work practices.
  • Prepares and loads material for current and future projects.
  • Employs safe work practices.
  • Prepares and/or generates documents such as outage reports, work orders, pole change-out sheets, and transformer test sheets.
  • Refers to specification book, employee handbook, MSDS sheet, and fuse coordination manual.
  • Utilizes a variety of computer software such as Wireless Work order and UGIS.
  • Interacts and communicates with a wide variety of groups and individuals to include crew members, general public, management, police, and firemen.
  • Operates a variety of machinery and heavy equipment to include bucket truck, line truck, mini track hoe, dump truck, and wire pulling rig.
  • Utilizes a variety of tools and/or tool sets such as hydraulic tools, insulated fiberglass tools, load break jumper, and climbing tools.
  • Utilizes a variety of materials and/or supplies such as poles, transformers, cross arms, wire, and insulators.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
