Status: Full Time (non-exempt), Hourly, 35 hours a week (9am-5pm); $21-24/hr based on experience
Description: The Archive and Digital Services Librarian is responsible for providing library services in support of research, teaching, and learning. Reporting to the Library Director, the incumbent develops, manages, and promotes digital services of the Library, including the College's institutional repository, digital collections, and Library website with an emphasis on enhancing discovery, accessibility, and usability of library resources and digitized content. The Archives and Digital Services Librarian investigates, evaluates, and selects appropriate content for inclusion in the College Archives and institutional repository, with a particular focus on cultivating the Library's program for recognizing and promoting faculty and staff publications. The incumbent is an active member of the reference and instruction team and participates in the educational efforts of the Library, including the development of instructional materials, research guides, video tutorials, and other support services. This position will cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships with students, faculty and staff in support of campus-wide research, teaching, and learning.
Qualifications:
Educational Background
- M.L.S. degree (or equivalent) from a ALA-accredited institution.
General Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of best practices, procedures, and technologies regarding archives and preservation.
- Working knowledge of a variety of metadata schema and file formats.
- Working knowledge of usability principles and web design skills (HTML, CSS, XML, etc.)
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues.
- Outstanding organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively adapt to and use new technologies and software.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Administers the institutional repository and digital collections platform (Daemen Digital Commons).
- Develops, documents and manages procedures for the arrangement, description, preservation, development, digitization and accessibility of archival materials and digital collections. This will include the collection of statistics on collection use and scholarship resulting from the use of the Daemen Digital Commons.
- Promotes awareness and use of the College Archives and Digital Commons through physical and virtual exhibits, website integration, presentations, social media, local media, and other outlets.
- Works to establish and maintain policies and procedures guiding digital storage, preservation, and workflows for born-digital content.
- Envisions, designs and advances the Library website and digital services.
- Administers the Springshare platform and its tools in collaboration with the Systems Librarian.
- Manages the library discovery layer (OCLC Discovery) and its integration with the library website.
- Establishes guidelines and best practices for the creation of web-based educational content, including tutorials, videos, and research guides.
- Develops and promotes digital literacy campus-wide.
- Provides leadership and supervision of library systems staff.
- Provides on-site and virtual research assistance to patrons.
- Provides instruction, particularly relating to the Archives and Special Collections and digital technologies.
- Builds and maintains relationships with campus offices and departments (e.g. Alumni Relations and Institutional Advancement).
- Actively participates in educational opportunities, regional conferences, and works to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.
General Duties
- Is an active member of the reference/research and instruction team, providing research assistance to students, faculty and administrators on a one-to-one basis, including evening and weekend duties.
- Assists patrons with all aspects of bibliographic database searching, including execution of searches on all databases provided by the Library, as well as the procurement of any materials cited.
- In cooperation with the faculty and reference and instruction library staff, coordinates and teaches introductory and advanced bibliographic instruction.
- Other duties as assigned: Interlibrary loan, collection development, and other projects/duties at the request of the Library Director.
- Acts as a cooperative team member with the entire Library staff.
Relationships
- Reports to the Library Director.
- Reporting to this position are various student employee(s), as assigned.
- Works closely with the entire Library staff, students, faculty, and administrative staff to ensure smooth and cooperative working relationships between the Library and the entire campus.
BENEFITS: This is a full-time, 12 month - 35hrs/week, hourly (non-exempt) position.
Benefits are available the first of the month following the full-time employee's date of hire and include health, dental, vision insurance, and fully paid life insurance. Eligibility for the 403b retirement plan is available to full-time employees upon hire and an 8% employer match after one year of service. General Physical Requirements: Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; desk job with majority of sedentary work sitting roughly 50% or greater of the workday.
Working Conditions: Climate controlled office setting, but some activities/ duties can occur both inside and outside the office setting.
Post-Hire Trainings: Various trainings assigned upon hire and annually thereafter by the Office of Employee Engagement.
