Travis Association for the Blind/Austin Lighthouse (TAB) a non-profit organization, was founded in 1934 by Dr. Henry L. Hilgartner and other civic-minded citizens of Austin to provide a setting where blind men and women could come to learn skills and create products that were sold door to door.

Today, Travis Association for the Blind stays true to the mission established in 1934 by providing opportunities for economic and personal independence for people who are blind, visually impaired, or deaf blind by creating, sustaining, and improving employment. Job Summary


The Staff Accountant will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial transactions related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, investments, and fixed assets. This job description reflects the specific responsibilities and qualifications for the Staff Accountant position, emphasizing the management of the general ledger transactions, audit readiness and audit support.


Responsibilities

· Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.

· Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.

· Ensures compliance with accounting principles (GAAP) and company policies.

· Manages A/P credit card software application and bank Integrated Payables process.

· Prepares journal entries and maintains accurate supporting documentation.

· Assist with internal and external audits.

· Reconciles bank statements and resolves any discrepancies.

· Assists in collaborating with external audit firm on form 990 and form 5500.

· Provides support to other members on the accounting team as needed.

· Other duties such as special projects and analysis as assigned by Director of Accounting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Knowledge of accounting principles and practice (GAAP).

· Proficiency in Microsoft Software suite, high proficiency in Excel and accounting software.

· Knowledge of financial audits.

· Knowledge of ERP systems.

· Strong ethics and discretion with confidential or sensitive information

· Able to read, comprehend and understand information and ideas presented in writing or in alternative form

· Judgment and Decision Making

· Advanced Mathematics

· Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.

· Time Management

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Minimum Education and Experience

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field

· Must have at least 2 years of experience in accounting


Physical Requirements

With or without reasonable accommodation, employees in this position must be able to:

· Prolonged periods of working on a computer

· Ability to be in a stationary position (stand/sit) for 6-8 hours

  • Ability to lift/move up to 10 lbs. at times
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, adjust position for 5% of time
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment such as: computer, printer, scanner, phone, etc
