Job Title: Fitness Center Manager

Job Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Recreation and Revenue Facilities. The Club Fitness Center Manager position is responsible for all fitness programs, fitness center special events, fitness center operations, aquatic operations, and the profitability of the Club Fitness Center. In addition, this position requires a strong ability to manage a team, be self-motivated, possess good time management skills, and the ability to relate and motivate all team members and clients. The manager is on call as needed. This is an at-will position.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Employee is responsible for the supervision and operation of the fitness center and aquatic center including, but not limited to staffing, scheduling, monitoring, budgeting, financial tracking, and facility & equipment maintenance.
  • Employee must be able to coach, lead and implement the District's Mission, Vision, and Core Values into the daily operations of the fitness and aquatic centers.
  • Employee is responsible for Fitness Equipment Plan, including but not limited to purchasing, equipment replacement, equipment enhancements, and equipment maintenance.
  • Employee is responsible for writing and executing a business plan for the fitness and aquatic center.
  • Employee is responsible for all equipment and supplies associated with the fitness and aquatic centers and including.
  • Employee must promote (and encourage staff to promote) the Addison Park District's memberships, programs, special events, and services.
  • Employee must be able to organize, plan, schedule, manage and execute all functions of fitness and aquatic center operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities continued

  • Employee is responsible for the development and implementation of all health and fitness programming and special events including, but not limited to group exercise (studio and aqua), Sprint Triathlon, and Community Fitness, etc.
  • Employee is responsible for the development and implementation of all personal training services including, but not limited to staffing, monitoring, budgeting, and financial tracking.
  • Employee is responsible for the management of all fitness contractual programs including, but not limited to Silver Sneakers, Renew Active, Ashlink, and Globalfit.
  • Employee is responsible for supervising full-time aquatics and members services supervisor, as well as, seasonal and part-time staff, by communicating job expectations, job training, coaching duties and responsibilities, performance evaluation, recognition, and discipline.
  • Employee must be able to prepare and communicate written and verbal reports for management staff and Board regarding their responsibility area using research, data, and supporting information.
  • Employee must coordinate and work with part-time and volunteer staff.
  • Employee must coordinate the scheduling of programs and events with appropriate managers, supervisors, and coordinators.
  • Employee must develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers through oral and written communications.
  • Employee must assist in customer service, which includes, but is not limited to addressing customer issues, comments, complaints, and concerns.
  • Employee must assist the customers in various ways such as, but not limited to in person, over the phone, and via e-mail while immediately assisting the customer themselves or directing the customer to the appropriate manager, supervisor and/or department if necessary.
  • Employee must seasonally and annually evaluate assigned programs, services, and facilities.
  • Employee must complete the necessary PDRMA forms for accidents and incidents.
  • Employee must perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Addison Park District's safety program, including, but not limited to maintaining safety records and materials for the health department, audits, and PDRMA evaluations for the fitness center, and aquatics.
  • Employee must maintain a high level of safety within all programs, facilities, and events.
  • Employee must hire, train, supervise and evaluate staff including, but not limited to, accurately completing all required paperwork on staff.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities continued

  • Employee must work and communicate with Maintenance and custodial staff for the safety, and maintenance of facilities, ensuring successful passing of all health department and certification audits/inspections, including but not limited to the fitness and aquatic centers.
  • Employee must prepare, monitor, and evaluate budgets for programs, services, and facilities.
  • Employee must prepare and proof seasonal materials and information for brochure, website, and registration.
  • Employee must be prepared to assist with any emergency procedures and facility evacuations as needed.
  • Employee to develop individual and sports performance training programs.
  • Employee will be required to instruct CPR and First Aid Classes as required
  • Employee must be available for other duties as assigned and/or needed.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

  • Employee must attend and contribute to staff meetings.
  • Employee must assist other staff as needed.
  • Employee must be able to attend workshops and seminars pertaining to the employee's position, as needed, for new ideas, developments, regulations, and techniques.
  • Employee must be available for other duties as assigned and/or needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have a bachelor's degree in Parks & Recreation Administration, Physical Education, and/or Associates Degree in Fitness, Sports Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience in managing fitness center programs and facilities.
  • Must have knowledge of physiology, exercise technique, and body mechanics.
  • Must have the desire to help others reach their health and fitness goals.
  • Must have experience purchasing and retiring fitness equipment.
  • Current Adult CPR/AED and First Aid certification or will be provided upon hire.
  • Must complete company-provided Medic First Aid Pediatric Plus Instructor Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.

  • Employee must be able to work independently in day-to-day operations with the general direction of the Superintendent of Recreation and Revenue Facilities.
  • Employee must demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work.
  • Employee must be able to work in a team atmosphere while promoting the Park District's Mission statement, vision, and core values.
  • Employee must have the ability to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations.
  • Employee must have the ability to recognize priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Employee must have the ability to be flexible and adaptable to new situations.
  • Employee must possess enthusiasm and drive with a desire to accomplish goals and objectives.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Employee may be required to work both inside and outside during various environmental conditions, such as, but not limited to rain and mud, hot and cold temperatures, and exposure to dust, fumes, dirt, and noise.
  • Employee must operate and handle assigned equipment.
  • Employee must have the physical agility to maintain mobility from site to site and be able to perform moderate manual tasks.
  • Employee may perform duties that include, but are not limited to prolonged lifting, standing, stooping, bending, twisting, and climbing for extended periods of time.
